It’s not goodbye!… it’s just see you soon.

It’s true.  After much discussion we have decided to move fEASTival to Sept. 8th due to the I-24 weekend closures to East Nashville.  These closures have been hurting the local businesses and they all feel this is a good decision for us.  We strongly encourage you to OCCUPY EAST NASHVILLE on the weekends!  Show these businesses some love.

We can’t wait to see everyone in September!  The good news to this is that we have a few more months to make the festival that much more awesome!

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams ~ Business, Community, Quality

“We are a community first, then a business … our community consists of our growers, suppliers, employees and the people who come shop. We like to grow the community. We grow out, not up.” –Jeni Britton Bauer

What is the best thing in the world? Ice cream! What makes it even better? Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams shop with their eccentric vision and complete obsession with using natural high-quality ingredients to produce exciting, new flavors of rich, homemade ice cream.

The Vision

Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ vision, much like the concept of ice cream itself, is a simple one: to make the ice creams they want to make. It’s not about what ice creams that can be mass-produced or what flavors create the most revenue. On the contrary, Jeni’s is one of the few businesses that concentrate whole-heartedly on growing the community and producing a product that meets standards of absolute quality.

After ten years of growing her company, Jeni Britton Bauer has projected a very specific image. This is to put Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams shops in communities that reflect particular characteristics of individuality, creativity and originality. East Nashville is one of these auspicious places where community spirit and individuality thrive. It is also perfect for a Jeni’s shop location. Jeni’s is not just an ice cream shop; it is an integral part of the community. To make sure of this, the company partakes and supports community activities such as fEASTival Nashville 2012 and also uses local ingredients whenever possible.

The Ingredients

Having local suppliers and growers clearly displays Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ resolve to be an avid part of the community that it is located in. Many ingredients are either locally grown or imported from growers/suppliers who do not use any source of child labor. These are typically private suppliers whose products reflect grand quality, care and are not mass-produced.

These precious ingredients are the foundation for the rich, exotic flavors that Jeni and her team creates and carries in the shops. It is the fiber that’s used by the many employees to create a homemade sensation that lives up to every spoken standard of quality.

Reaping the Rewards

The economy has concerned most businesses during the last few years, but Jeni’s unique vision, image and location strategies have served them well. Communities appreciate the shop’s contributions, not to mention its mouth-watering treats.

The End to an Ongoing Story

It’s true that ice cream is the best item on the planet. It’s the cause of fun, happiness, and instant gratification to people of all ages. However, Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ story goes far beyond just ice cream and shows how a little shop with a lot of creativity, character and tenacity can go a long ways. So make sure you stop by the shop, get a scoop and continue the story.

fEASTival 2012 Sponsor Nashville Running Company

New running store offers more than just the shoes

Run Nashville. Not figuratively, but literally run it.

That is the goal of Nashville Running Company, the new retail store located in East Nashville. The unique retail store that specializes in everything a runner could need was opened by Lee and Angela Wilson in December 2011. The husband-wife duo, who have been in Nashville since 2008, work as a team with Angela working mainly as a financial advisor, and Lee running the day-to-day business. Before a job that brought the Wilsons to Nashville, the couple lived across the United States. They met in San Francisco when Angela was working as a software consultant and Lee in software sales. After living in Manhattan, they decided to move closer to one of their families, and Nashville ended up being the place for them.

Years of working in sales for large companies helped Lee to pursue his own business ventures.

“I’ve always wanted to do something on my own, and this opportunity was something I had been thinking about so I decided to go for it,” said Lee.
Nashville Running Company’s store is a boutique-like setup that offers smaller niche brands that help set them apart from larger competitors. Mizuno is their most widely-known footwear, with other brands such as Newton and Inov-8 popular among customers. The store also offers a variety of other items that any dedicated runner would need like socks and running apparel.

If the products alone aren’t enough to draw a customer into NRC, their involvement in the community will. Five Points Fridays, training groups and trail runs are all ways that NRC helps to get the community involved in putting those new running shoes to good use. Because of the store’s youth, employees have had a hand in creating new ideas, like the Tuesday night trail runs.
“It’s stuff a good, solid running store should be doing,” said Lee.
Future plans for NRC are getting even more involved with the community. Just a few include adding more training groups this summer, participating in the Music City Mile, becoming more involved with schools and non-profit organizations and sponsoring fEASTival, where everyone is welcome to come to the NRC booth and get to know the team.
All of the NRC’s goals and purpose go back to the community.
“Being here in East Nashville, this area where there’s a lot of runners, it’s good to be here because there are so many runners. So many of us work here and live here, so we end up hanging out here a lot,” said Lee. “It’s such a loyal community, it’s nice to be here and involved. “
